Kimberly Samaniego

Kimberly Samaniego is the Director of the Mathematics Diagnostic Testing Project (MDTP) and the Director of Math Testing and Placement (MTP) at UCSD. Since becoming the MDTP/MTP Director in the Fall of 2015, Kim has focused on updating, expanding, and revolutionizing testing modalities, materials and resources, state-wide and local outreach, professional training to educators from secondary and post-secondary institutions, and access and support to the communities of both projects.

Kim earned her B.A. in Mathematics from California State University, Sacramento in 1993, and her Ed. D. in Teaching and Learning from UCSD in 2013. Kim’s research interests focus on teacher learning, educational reforms, and equitable teaching practices in mathematics classrooms. Kim’s 20 years of experience as a secondary mathematics teacher and department chair, instructor of preservice secondary mathematics teachers, and teacher-trainer inform her dual roles and strengthen her ability to fuse her person goals of providing access to equitable learning opportunities to students from all backgrounds with MDTP’s mission of supporting secondary mathematics educators in their work to prepare their students to succeed in college-level mathematics.
